Once you go bald, figuring out how to take care of your new look can come with a lot of questions. Here, we'll address four ways to properly take care of your scalp.
Keep going to the barber
Contrary to popular belief, going to the barbershop even when you're bald is still a good idea not only for general maintenance but for the health of your scalp. Whatever your reason for going bald may be, continuing to visit your barber can help you prevent or identify the root of different common (yet sometimes scary) issues. If you're suffering from an itchy or flaky scalp, rashes, redness, or breakouts, a barber can be resourceful for figuring out why.
Find a shampoo that focuses on your scalp
Do you have dandruff? Is your head oily or super dry? Are you prone to breakouts? Now is the time to really analyze your head and find a shampoo that addresses those concerns. Usually, whatever you use on your face will also be good for your head.
Don't forget to moisturize
Hydration is always important and now it's more important than ever now that your scalp is exposed. It's ideal to apply hair oil right after you get out of the shower while your pores are still open. You can follow up with the moisturizer you use on your face to seal it in. Doing so will also help ensure the skin on your head has the elasticity necessary for its next shave –and that means little to no nicks and cuts.
Wear sunscreen
Plan on lying out in the sun or being outdoors for awhile? Sunscreen is essential for preventing sun burn. Target carries a few Black-owned sunscreen brands made for melanin-kissed skin.
